  • Augie Spector (Charles Haid) taps loudly on Jessica's (Angela Lansbury) bird cage containing a little yellow bird.
  • In Oscar Wilde's movie The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945), Angela Lansbury sings a song called "Goodbye Little Yellow Bird," about a caged yellow bird. She performs the song again as cousin Emma MacGill in Season 2's "Sing a Song of Murder."
  • The title is based on a quotation from author Walter Scott (1771–1832): "Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive!"
  • Augie says he doesn't smoke when Jessica had said "gotta light" but he was smoking a cigar when he was with Eric Bowman is questionable in him in saying that he doessn't smoke.
  • The Colonial Street was not plowed up at Universal Studios in California, the reason being the Colonial Street is still there for when Desperate Housewives used the houses, i.e. The Munster House that the Applewhites lived in & when Dena Delaney & Ellen Geer had lived as well.
