Paul Atkins is a sound engineer previously employed by Rojam Records, but now has his own label, Sly Records. He was the engineer whom Jessica Fletcher worked with when taping her novel The Corpse Danced at Midnight for the blind, and also produced an up-and-coming young singer-songwriter named Willi Piper's song, Desperate Times. After music mogul Freddie Major is shot dead, Paul is framed for his murder by the real killer, Charles George Drexler, who had planted the murder weapon in his car, however Jessica is able to figure out Drexler is the killer and clear Paul's name. At the end of the episode, Willi and Holly Chase reveal to Jessica that Paul and Julie are getting married the following weekend.
