Trivia[]

  • Jessica's niece is being "gaslighted" which is a term derived from the film Gaslight (1944), Angela Lansbury's first film.
  • The title refers to the traditional Scottish ballad, "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean".
  • The first and only appearance of Jessica's brother, Dr. Marshall McGill.
  • The casting director must have been watching The Poseidon Adventure (1972) because like that film, both Leslie Nielsen and Byron Webster play high ranking cruise ship crew.
  • Lawrence Pressman and Belinda Montgomery would later go on to co-star together in Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989).
  • The episode appears to have been filmed on the Queen Mary, which has had its powertrain and most of the interior removed to make room for a hotel and museum. It is permanently docked in Long Beach, California, where the boarding scenes were filmed.
