Press Release

Coinciding with the announcement at E3, Legacy Interactive confirmed that Murder, She Wrote would be a light adventure, hidden object game for the PC. The release also revealed that the game would be primarily set in Cabot Cove, Jessica Fletcher's home town in Maine. However some would take place elsewhere such as Vermont and England, Legacy also revealed that the characters of Jessica Fletcher, Dr. Seth Hazlitt and Sherriff Mort Metzger would appear in the game. There was however no confirmation on whether any of the original cast members, including Angela Lansbury, would provide voice overs for their relevant characters in the video game.

"LOS ANGELES - June 2, 2009 - Casual games developer and publisher Legacy Interactive® today announced a licensing agreement with Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group (UPDPG) to develop video games based on the popular television drama series House M.D. and the classic TV mystery series Murder, She Wrote. Murder, She Wrote will be adapted as a light adventure, hidden object game on the PC that evokes the feel and themes of the long-running television series. The game, which features five all-new mysteries, takes place primarily in the quaint New England town of Cabot Cove, Maine. Each case follows acclaimed crime novelist Jessica Fletcher, a sharp-eyed senior citizen with a nose for clues, as she unravels a series of puzzling murders. Each mystery is a standalone story with its own clues and beautiful locations ranging from Maine to Vermont to England. Helping Jessica solve the crimes will be other well-loved characters from the show, including Dr. Seth Hazlitt and Sherriff Mort Metzger. "Legacy's success in developing television franchises such as NBC's Law & Order as games gives us confidence that they will again deliver engaging interactive experiences to fans of House M.D. and Murder, She Wrote," said Bill Kispert, vice president and general manager, interactive, Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group. "Given the dynamism in the casual gaming sector and robust online distribution channels, we believe the timing is ideal to bring well-known TV franchises to videogames," said Ariella Lehrer, President and CEO of Legacy Interactive."

Development Diary

Following Legacy's press release, a development diary was published on Gamezebo. The development diary is written by Donald E. Marshall, senior producer at Legacy Interactive. Donald Marshall revealed that the biggest challenge they were presented with was translating the winning formula of Murder, She Wrote to its new medium, the video game. The stories had to remain true to the series involving evidence that was noticeable to the naked eye, and would tell the story of the crime.

Donald and his team were also well aware that they had to maintain the feel of Murder, She Wrote as it jumped over to the PC. In order to ensure this happened Dr. Anne Del Borgo was brought on board as the writer for the games storyline. Anne is an established writer of Murder, She Wrote fiction, and webmaster of The Definitive Guide to Murder, She Wrote.

It is in this diary that Donald also reveals that Anne has written the characters of Jessica Fletcher, Dr. Seth Hazlitt, Sherriff Mort Metzger and Emma McGill into the game, which is to consist of 5 missions. Three of which are to take place in Cabot Cove, while the other two are to take place in Vermont and England.

Despite Angela Lansbury being "onboard" with the game, and approving her likeness to be used in the game, neither her nor any of the original cast members provided voiceovers for the game.

Marketing & Release

Various marketing techniques have been employed in promoting the release of Murder, She Wrote; including the release of 3D rendering and a number of screenshots from the game.
