Mildred Terhune was the town librarian of Cabot Cove. She'd inherited one of three shares in an apple orchard from her deceased aunt, who also left the other shares to Mildred's sister and aunt at her death. A woman claiming to be her sister arrived in Cabot Cove and came to Mildred's home where she claimed to be her sister. She was actually a con artist who was attempting to claim Irene's share of her inheritance, and was found dead the following day - murdered. It was not until after her death that Mildred learned that not only were her aunt and sister dead, but that the little apple orchard had been replaced by a large mall that was making money hand over fist. The Fake Irene had been killed by Mildred's husband, who was trying to prevent the con artist from claiming part of Mildred's inheritance.
