"Magnum on Ice" is the eighth episode of the third season of Murder, She Wrote and its 52nd episode overall. It is the second part of a two-episode crossover with Magnum, P.I., the first part being "Novel Connection". It aired on November 23, 1986.

Summary[]

Jessica comes to the assistance of Magnum when he's framed for two murders that occur during her vacation in Hawaii.

  • This is the second of a two-part crossover story arc which began in Magnum, P.I.: Novel Connection (1986). Novel Connection is on Season 7 of Magnum P.I., episode 9.
  • Tom Selleck and John Hillerman both receive special guest star billing.
  • This is one of the only episodes where Jessica Walter guest stars where she doesn't play a victim. She was previously the murder victim in Murder in the Afternoon and will play one two more times.

  • This episode was re-edited for syndication to wrap up the story as a stand-alone.
  • Larry Manetti stated that he did not enjoy working with Angela Lansbury, as she couldn't be bothered talking to him during filming. Larry got the vibe that Angela felt she was "above" him.

Someone from the crew can be seen in the reflection of the mirror in one scene

  • Higgins is hit on the head and left bloody after a scuffle with a bad guy. Shortly afterwards, back at Robin's Nest, as he is saying his goodbyes, his head is miraculously healed with no scar or bandage.
  • When Jessica Fletcher is talking with Arthur Houston, he is using a computer, hitting a key once in a while as if paging though a document. But the computer isn't turned on - nothing on screen and no lights on the front of the PC/XT or PC/AT case.
