Jessica has to unravel the secrets and threats at the funeral of a friend in Wyoming.

William Windom, who played Dr. Seth Hazlett in most of the series and appeared more than any other person, appeared first as a guest star in Murder, She Wrote: Funeral at Fifty-Mile (1985), as Sam Breen, a small-town lawyer.
Victim: Carl Mestin
Killer(s): Sam Breen, Tim Carver, Bill Carmody & Doc Wallace.
Cause of death: Accidentally hung after his horse was scared by lightning.
Motive: To prevent him from changing the beneficiary of his will.
Goofs[]
As Jessica walks into the Sheriff's station, she is wearing knee-high brown boots. When the sheriff leaves, she is wearing gray pumps.
When Jessica is walking to the barn after talking to Doc when he is peeling an Apple, she is in boots. When they switch scenes to show her behind the barn walking, she is in heels.
At the end of the funeral scene, a large microphone can be seen sticking up from behind the pickup truck while moving back and forth to follow the actors' dialog.
After the discovery of the body hanging in the barn, as Jessica climbs down from the loft, the cables supporting the hanged actor can be seen, as well as there being no noose around his neck.
