Production Information[]
Summary[]
An unpublished manuscript is stolen and its author murdered during an awards convention.
Trivia[]
The characters of "Helmsley Post" -an aggressively macho writer of war stories - and "Adrian Winslow" - a waspish, perhaps homosexual author of historical novels - may be intended as outrageous caricatures of the real-life writers Norman Mailer and Gore Vidal, whose long-standing literary feud had been very much in the news shortly before this was filmed. The name "Post" for the Mailer character is another clue.
Future series Regular as Cabot Cove Sheriff Mort Metzger, Ron Masak, appears as Lt. Meyer in this episode.
After the cancellation of the MSW series (1984-1996), creators William S. Fischer and William Link rehire Ron Masak for a brief appearance in their famous made for television Columbo movies. Masak can be seen in the "Ashes to Ashes" Columbo episode dated 10/08/98.
This is the first murder where it was an accident and done in self-defense.
This is Pat Harrington Jr.'s first appearance on Murder She Wrote. He was also in Season 3's "The Corpse Flew First Class," Season 6's "Jack & Bill," and Season 7's "The Skinny According to Nick Cullhane."
