Jessica goes to the races to watch her niece ride the winning horse. Then the horse's owner is murdered after a dispute.
Features two former Three's Company (1976) cast members Priscilla Barnes and Norman Fell. However, the two were not on that show at the same time. By the time Barnes joined the cast as Terri Alden, Fell was no longer on the cast due to his character Stanley Roper being spun off onto his own show, The Ropers (1979).
The title refers to the results of a race where the first two contestants across the finish line are so close together that a winner cannot be determined.
The only other instance when Jessica's other brother, Martin, (Tracy's father) is mentioned.
Victim: Jack Bowen
Killer: Vicky Gallegos
Cause of death: Tranquilizer dart to the heart.
Motive: To prevent her husband, Carlos Gallegos, from being deported if he didn't race for Bowen.
As Jessica leaves the hippodrome, she enters a cab and two men enter it, too. As the car moves on, the boom is seen reflected in the cab's windows.
