"Dead Heat" is the eighth episode of the second season of Murder, She Wrote and its 30th episode overall. It aired on November 24, 1985.

Summary[]

Jessica goes to the races to watch her niece ride the winning horse. Then the horse's owner is murdered after a dispute.

Trivia[]

  • Features two former Three's Company (1976) cast members Priscilla Barnes and Norman Fell. However, the two were not on that show at the same time. By the time Barnes joined the cast as Terri Alden, Fell was no longer on the cast due to his character Stanley Roper being spun off onto his own show, The Ropers (1979).
  • The title refers to the results of a race where the first two contestants across the finish line are so close together that a winner cannot be determined.
  • The only other instance when Jessica's other brother, Martin, (Tracy's father) is mentioned.

Goofs[]

  • As Jessica leaves the hippodrome, she enters a cab and two men enter it, too. As the car moves on, the boom is seen reflected in the cab's windows.
  • When Jessica leaves the cab, as she arrives at the hippodrome, the cab starts to move on and some movie crew and the camera are seen reflected in the car's windows.
  • Obvious stunt double when Jessica is attacked by a horse at the end.
